Written by Melinda Braaksma, illustrated by me, and beautifully designed by Dafne Arlman!
This story follows Pieter, a seven-year-old boy growing up in Amsterdam during World War II—a time filled with tension and secrets, where courage and betrayal go hand in hand.
The narrative is based on the real-life experiences of Father Braaksma, combined with fictional elements to bring the story to life.
Melinda’s goal is to share this remarkable story with students all across the Netherlands. This year marks exactly 80 years since the war gripped our country, yet its themes feel more relevant than ever. It’s essential to keep this history alive so that we never forget the lessons of the past.
The book launch will take place on Saturday, March 1st in Amsterdam, at the school that plays a key role in the story.
