The jury praised the book for its convincing perspective, showing the impact of war through the eyes of two children. They highlighted how the alternating perspectives create tension and emotional depth, while the threat of war remains present beneath the surface.

For this book, I created the cover and more than 25 illustrations. Bringing Melinda’s powerful story to life visually has been such a meaningful project. Seeing both the book and my illustrations receive this recognition makes me incredibly proud.
With more than 2,700 copies sold, Verraad Mij Niet is well on its way to becoming a children’s bestseller.
